MasterCard Memorial Cup: Sea Dogs Head Coach Gallant Fined $500 For Unprofessional Comments
The 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup Hockey Operations Committee announced on Sunday that Saint John Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant has been fined $500 for unprofessional comments made regarding the officiating following Saturday night's 5-3 loss to the London Knights at the Centre Bionest in Shawinigan, Quebec.
“I've been complaining all year,” said Mr. Gallant when speaking to the media Saturday night. “I've been in the Quebec league for three years and I've been complaining for three years about us getting the short end of the stick and I'm tired of it. I really am. Tonight it was again, how does Huberdeau get a penalty at the end of the game for four minutes for roughing? I watched that Gauthier. Just give me a break. I'm not taking anything away from London. They were the better team. But I'm so tired of that. That frustration at the end of the game, I don't want to do that. But I'm tired of it.”
The native of Summerside, PE, was given a bench minor during the final minutes of Saturday's game after arguing with an official over a double minor call that went to captain Jonathan Huberdeau.
Gallant and the Sea Dogs are back in action on Monday night as they face the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings at the Centre Bionest in Shawinigan, Quebec. Game time is scheduled for 7pm (EST).
