President's Cup Final: Sea Dogs Take Commanding 3-0 Series Lead

Rimouski, Que - The Saint John Sea Dogs are now one win away from booking their ticket to their second straight Mastercard Memorial Cup thanks to a 6-4 win on Wednesday night in game three of the best of seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League President's Cup final.

Saint John opened the scoring in the contest as defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel scored his third goal of playoffs at 8:53 of the first period going blocker side on Jacob Gervais-Chouinard, Stephen MacAulay picked up the lone assist on the goal.

The Oceanic would tie the game up at one as Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc fired home his ninth goal of the playoffs on the power play at 11:00 of the opening period, Jakub Culek and Alex Belzile were given the helpers.

Stephen MacAulay gave the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead as he netted his sixth goal of the playoffs at the 17:30 mark of the second period, Maxime Villemaire and Ryan Tesink were awarded with the assists.

Just 33 seconds later after a Oceanic turnover in their own zone, Jonathan Huberdeau found Danick Gauthier who made no mistake beating Gervais-Chouinard for his 11th goal of the playoffs, Huberdeau did pick up the lone helper on the goal.

Alexander Mallet cut the Saint John lead to one just 18 seconds into the third period as he tipped in his 10th goal of the playoffs beating Sea Dogs goaltender Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault, Peter Trainor and Alex Belzile recorded the assists.

17 seconds later, Saint John regained their two-goal lead as  Stanislav Galiev found the back of the net for his 13th goal of the playoffs, Tomas Jurco was given the lone helper on the goal.

Danick Gauthier made the score 5-2 for the Sea Dogs as he scored his 12th goal of the playoffs going five-hole on Oceanic goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard, Charlie Coyle picked up the only assist.

Petr Straka gave the Oceanic some life at 11:03 of the third period as he buried his 10th goal of the playoffs, Jean-François Plante and Samuel Morin were given credit with the helpers.

The Oceanic would not go away without a fight as Francis Beauvillier cut the Saint John lead to one as he netted his fifth goal of the playoffs at 16:05 of the final frame, Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc and Jakub Culek added the assists.

Tomas Jurco secured the victory for the Sea Dogs  at 18:01 of the third period as he found the back of the net for his 11th goal of the playoffs, Stanislav Galiev and Zack Phillips recorded the helpers.

Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault made 23 saves in the win for Saint John, his record improves to 15-0-1-0 while Jacob Gervais-Chouinard turned aside 15 of 20 shots before being replaced by Carl Hozjan who stopped three of four shots in his 17:44 of relief, Gervais-Chouinard did pick up the loss in goal, his record falls to 10-5-1-0.

Game four of the President's Cup final goes Thursday, May 10th at 7:30pm (ET) at the Rimouski Colisee, A win by the Sea Dogs will mark their second straight President's Cup championship and a second  appearance at the Mastercard Memorial Cup.
