CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced Friday that Steve Spott (Waterloo, Ont.), head coach and general manager of the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers, will be head coach of Canada’s National Junior Team for the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship, scheduled for Dec. 26, 2012 to Jan. 6, 2013 in Ufa, Russia.

Shawinigan, Que - Henrik Samuelsson's goal at 13:42 of the third period proved to be the game winner as the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings edged the host Shawinigan Cataractes 4-3 on Friday night at the Bionest Centre in Shawinigan, Quebec.

Along with Samuelsson finding the back of the net for the Oil Kings, Kristians Pelss, Griffin Reinhart and  Martin Gernat scored single markers for Edmonton in the win.

Shawinigan Cataractes head coach Eric Veilleux announced on Friday morning that 17-year old goaltender Alex Dubeau will get the start in goal on Friday night against the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings as the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup gets underway in Shawinigan, Quebec.

In seven games with the Cataractes during the 2012 President's Cup Playoffs, the native of Mascouche, Quebec posted a record of 3-3-1-0 along with a 2.08 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .919.

Screaming Eagles general manager Pierre Roux said Sulliman was the front-runner for the job, but the former Phoenix Coyotes assistant coach decided to pass for personal reasons. However, Roux said it doesn’t close the door for the future.

“I think it’s important for everybody to know that Doug was our first candidate,” said Roux. “But after a couple of meetings and a couple of weeks of reflection, Doug decided the timing wasn’t there in his life.

Tigres' Goude Signs AHL Contract With Worcester Sharks

Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced on Thursday that the club has signed Victoriaville Tigres left winger Yanni Gourde to a standard player AHL contract for the 2012-13 season. Terms of the deal were not released to the media.

The St. Narcisse, Quebec native joined the AHL's Sharks following the end of the Tigres President's Cup playoff run. The 20 year old recorded three points including one goal and two assists in his first four games with Worcester.
