Brunelle Named Screaming Eagles New Captain
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced that center Jonathan Brunelle will replace Morgan Ellis who was traded during the league's winter trade period as captain of the hockey club.
Head Coach Ron Choules made the announcement on Tuesday morning at a Media Conference at Centre 200.
Brunelle, 20, was acquired by the Screaming Eagles in June from the Drummondville Voltigeurs. In 41 games with Cape Breton this season, Brunelle the native of Boisbriand, Quebec recorded 45 points (14 goals, 31 assists) along with a -21 rating and 31 penalty minutes.
“Jonathan played in a Memorial Cup and understands what it takes to prepare yourself to play at the Major Junior level. This is important because we have a number of young players here in Cape Breton at this time and his experience and the way he carries himself as a person and a player will help in their development.”said Choules on the official website of the hockey club.
The head coach also announced that Sebastien Payette (20) , Stephen Woodworth (18) and Cory MacIntosh (19) will be the assistant captains for the rest of the season.
