Mooseheads Select Frk With 3rd Overall Pick At 2010 CHL Import Draft, Cougars select Marincin

The 2010 Canadian Hockey League import draft got underway Tuesday, morning at 9:00am when the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars made their pick with the first overall selection at this year's import draft. The Cougars selected defencemen Martin Marincin of Slovakia who is a NHL Draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers in round two #46 overall at the 2010 NHL Draft in L.A. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads held the third overall pick at this year's import draft, before the Mooseheads made the selection the Sarnia Sting drafted Nail Yakupov. The Mooseheads selected Martin Frk a 17 year old left winger of the Czech Republic. Frk last season played for the HC Karlovy of the Czech Under 20 League, where he recorded 28 goals & 27 helpers for a total of 55 points in only 39 games during the 2009-2010 season. Frk also led the Czech Republic in scoring at the Under 18 World Championships this year scoring seven times in six games.“We’re fortunate to have been able to take the best player available in this draft and we’re going to work hard to get him in our lineup”, stated Mooseheads Head Coach/GM Cam Russell.  “Frk is also not eligible for the NHL Draft until 2012 which fits perfectly with our plans moving forward ”.
