Memorial Cup: Saskatoon Blades Memorial Cup Run Is Over

It's not the ending the Saskatoon Blades wanted.

The Blades suffered a 6-1 loss to the London Knights on Thursday in the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tie-Breaker game at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon. The loss sends Saskatoon packing from the Memorial Cup tourmament.

With the win, London will now face the Portland Winterhawks in the tournaments semifinals on Friday, with the winner going to the Memorial Cup final on Sunday against the Halifax Mooseheads.

The semifinal game gets underway at 8:00p.m. (EST).

SASKATOON - The London Knights have advanced to the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup semifinals on Thursday night, defeating the host Saskatoon Blades 6-1 in the tournaments tie-breaker game.

Saskatoon with the loss is officially knocked out of the Memorial Cup.

Bo Horvat, Seth Griffith, Chris Tierney, Ryan Rupert, Kyle Platzer, and Nikita Zadorov each had goals for the Knights.

Nathan Burns had the lone goal for the Blades in the contest.

Memorial Cup: Memorial Cup Final To Be Seen On Big Screen In Downtown Halifax

Sunday's Memorial Cup Final featuring the Halifax Mooseheads, can be seen on a big screen in downtown Halifax.

According to the Halifax Regional Municipality's events twitter page, the game will be seen on a big screen at Grand Parade on Sunday night .

This is not the first time HRM has done an event like this. During games three and four of the President Cup Final in Baie-Comeau,
the city also offered a big screen for fans to watch the games at Grand Parade.

The Memorial Cup final gets underway at 7:00p.m. (EST).

Remparts' Roy Named Colorado Avalanche Head Coach

DENVER -- Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy is the new head coach and vice president of hockey operations of the Colorado Avalanche.

Roy takes over the coaching duties from Joe Sacco, who was let go after Colorado finished this season last in the Western Conference with a 16-25 record.

Memorial Cup: Blades' Thrower Suspended For Balance Of Memorial Cup

Saskatoon, SK – The Canadian Hockey League announced today that the National Hockey League Hockey Operations department has suspended Dalton Thrower of the Saskatoon Blades under supplemental discipline for the balance of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup.  The suspension was for a check to the head that occurred in the first period of Wednesday's game that injured opponent Taylor Leier of the Portland Winterhawks.

Phoenix Hire Desrosiers As Assistant Coach

The Sherbrooke Phoneix officially have a new assistant coach.

The team announced on Thursday that they have hired Mr. Benoit Desrosiers as the clubs new assistant coach.

Desrosiers last season was an assistant coach with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

In other Phoenix news, the club also announced on Thursday that assistant coach Pascal Rhéaume will not return to the teams bench next season. Rumors have Mr. Rhéaume interested in the Shawinigan Cataractes head coaching duties.

SASKATOON - The Portland Winterhawks are heading to the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup semifinals on Friday thanks to a 4-2 victory over the host Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday at the Credit Union Centre.

With Portland's win, the QMJHL champion, Halifax Mooseheads will now advance right to the Memorial Cup finals on Sunday, while the Saskatoon Blades will play tomorrow, Thursday against the London Knights in the tournaments tie-breaker game.

Former 'Q' Coach Fired By Canucks

The club fired Vigneault and assistants Rick Bowness and Newell Brown on Wednesday, as the expected fallout from the Canucks' first-round sweep at the hands of the San Jose Sharks finally came to pass.

Memorial Cup: Mooseheads Roll Past Knights 9-2

SASKATOON - A five goal first period by the Halifax was the difference as the Mooseheads rolled past the London Knights 9-2 at the Credit Union Centre on Tuesday.

Martin Frk led the way for Halifax with three goals, while Dracy Ashley netted a pair of goals, and Brent Andrews, Stefan Fournier, Ryan Falkenham and Luca Ciampini also chipped in with goals for the Mooseheads.

Seth Griffith and Matt Rupert each had goals for the Knights in the game.
