Cataractes' Gormley Avoids Serious Injury

Shawinigan Cataractes defenceman Brandon Gormley on Saturday afternoon just barely avoided a serious injury when Saint John Sea Dogs right winger Charlie Coyle's skate cut the 19 year old on the left side of this neck just missing his jugular.

The freak injury happened during the final seconds of Saturday's game between Shawinigan and Saint John at the Bionest Centre in Shawinigan, Quebec. Gormley was rushed to a local Shawinigan hospital by ambulance.

The Phoenix Coyotes prospect was wearing a neck guard at the time of the incident.

Report: Kabanov Has Concussion

According to  reports, Shawinigan Cataractes right winger Kirill Kabanov suffered a concussion following a hit by Saint John Sea Dogs center Jason Cameron during the third period of Saturday afternoon's game between Shawinigan and Saint John at the Bionest Centre in Shawinigan, Quebec.

The 18 year old was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for the hit on the New York Islander prospect.

Foreurs Fire General Manager Carrière

The Val-D'or Foreurs announced on Thursday that the club has fired General Manager Mario Carrière.

Carrière was an assistant coach with Val-D'or for nearly seven seasons before taking over the position of director of hockey operations since the 2009-2010 season.

Jean-François Pressé will be in charge of hockey operations until further notice.

Weegar commits To Halifax For Next Season

Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell announced on Thursday morning that 18 year old defenceman MacKenzie Weegar will be joining the Mooseheads for the 2012-2013 season.

Weegar is currently playing with the Nepean Raiders of the Central Canada Tier 1 Junior Hockey League. In 42 games with the Raiders the 6-0, 185-pounder has recorded 43 points.

Weegar is currently ranked 160th among North America skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League commissioner Mr. Gilles Courteau announced on Thursday that they Quebec Remparts organization has been fined $5,000 due to public comments made by General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Roy towards the league's management.

Roy's comments were expressed because of Quebec Remparts right winger Mikhail Grigorenko's participation at the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game.

Orr Edges Cherry in Kelowna

Team Orr claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Team Cherry in the 2012 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, B.C.

Branden Troock of the Seattle Thunderbirds lifted Team Orr to the win with a terrific effort with just 24 seconds remaining in the third period.  The 17-year-old broke down the left wing and powered his way to the front of the net, sliding the puck under Matt Murray to end what was a physical, tight-checking affair.
