Detroit - Red Wings veteran Kirk Maltby will announce his retirement Tuesday at a 5:30 p.m. press conference at Joe Louis Arena.

Maltby, 37, played 14 seasons with the Wings and was part of four Stanley Cup championship teams.

Maltby signed a two-way contract over the summer, but didn't make the Wings’ final roster.

Rather than begin the season in Grand Rapids, the Wings' minor league affiliate, Maltby has decided to retire.
