Sportsnet.ca is reporting that New York Islanders net minder Rick DiPietro will begin practicing with the team in the next week or two.
DiPietro has not suited up for a game all season long due to knee surgery he was forced to have after an initial knee injury last January.
Islanders head coach Scott Gordon told Sportsnet.ca he plans to put DiPietro through a personal two-week training camp once he’s cleared to practice.
While the talented goaltender will hit the ice soon, he’s not expected to see any game action until after Christmas.
In seven season, all with the Islanders, DiPietro has a 147-112-8-21 career record along with a 2.79 goals against average and 14 shutouts in 273 games played.
