QMJHL Make BIG Trades!

It was a busy day in the QMJHL on Monday. Nine teams made trades as the QMJHL's trade deadline is coming to an end on Thursday, January 8th 2009 at 12:00pm. Shawinigan & Rimouski were the big traders of the day. The first trade of the day came between Rimouski & Quebec. Rimouski sent 18 year old defencemen Alexandre Néron to Quebec for a 1st round pick in 2009 & 3rd round pick in 2009. The 2nd trade of the day was between Rimouski & Victoriaville. Victoriaville 20 year old defencemen Jason Demers for a 8th round pick in 2009. Note Demers has been playing with the Worcester Sharks in the AHL for most of the season. I dont know if he will be back in the Q but Rimouski is only giving up a 8th round pick in 2009 for him. The third trade of the day was a pretty big one between Saint John & Shawinigan. Saint John traded 19 year old defencemen Alex Grant & a 5th round pick in 2010 to Shawinigan for 17 year old left winger Danick Gauthier, 2nd round draft pick in 2009 & 1st round pick in 2010. The fourth trade of the day was between Halifax & Saint John. Saint John traded 18 year old defencemen Pascal Amyot & 1st round europeen draft pick in 2009. Heading to Saint John is 1st round europeen draft pick in 2009 & 4th round pick in 2009. The five trade of the day was a really big one between Rimouski & Rouyn-Noranda. Rouyn-Noranda traded 19 year old defencemen Marc-André Bourdon, 19 year old goalie Matthew Dopud & 17 year old left winger Justin MacNaughton for 1st round draft pick in 2009 which goes to Quebec, 2nd round pick in 2009, 3rd round pick in 2009 which also goes to Quebec, 7th round pick in 2009, 1st round in 2010 & 4th round pick in 2010. The final trade of the day was between Cape Breton & Acadie-Bathurst. Cape Breton traded 18 year old defencemen Olivier Dame-Malka for 19 year old defencemen Brad Tesink. The Traded Deadline ends on Thursday, January 8th 2009 at 12:00pm.
