Before “Gino” made the transition to the NHL, Russian fans would chant “Evgeni is the best! Evgeni is God!”  It has been become clear since he suited up for the Penguins why the fans gave the Russian star this title. Malkin is the total package, a hybrid of a power and finesse forward.  Malkin skates like the wind for a man his size, and his lateral movement is excellent.  Malkin is equally capable of setting up his linemates for scoring chances and scoring highlight reel goals himself. His reach alone gives the opposition headaches.  Malkin skates through the neutral zone with great authority, using his size and smarts to penetrate the defense.  Malkin is also capable of delivering bone crushing hits in open ice or in the corners.  Malkin reminds many scouts of Mario Lemieux, expect a better skater and more of a physical presence. Malkin will be a perennial Hart Trophy nominee for years to come.
